About Malaysia, JomPACT!

A youth-powered initiative bringing together communities, local councils, and government for a future free from problematic and unnecessary single-use plastics.
About the initiative

What Is Malaysia, JomPACT!

Malaysia, JomPACT! is an initiative that puts you in the driver's seat to tackle single-use plastic waste. PACT stands for Plastic Actions, and that is exactly what we are building.

Led by WWF-Malaysia and funded by Yayasan Hasanah, we are empowering youth in Malaysia to design, test, and scale real solutions that cut down problematic and unnecessary single-use plastics (PUSUPs) in your communities - from mamaks and campus canteens to markets and public spaces.

Here is what makes this initiative different: we are not just raising your awareness through Masterclass. We are building your skills, your leadership, and creating systems-level change that lasts. You will work alongside local councils and government agencies to turn ideas into action and prove that youth-led solutions work.
Our Purpose

Why Malaysia Needs JomPACT!

The Challenge

According to WWF-Malaysia published in 2020, Malaysia generates over 1 million tonnes of post-consumer plastic waste - 1,070,064 tonnes, to be precise (WWF-Malaysia, 2020). The single-use plastic products around us? They outlive us by centuries. The truth is, we can't recycle our way out of this. We need to stop the flood at the source - and that starts with the people using it every day.

The Changemakers

Young Malaysians are already concerned. You see the problem. You want change. Malaysia, JomPACT! exists to turn that frustration into power, giving you the evidence, mentorship, and connections with local authorities to actually redesign how your community uses plastic.

The Future

Because shifting mindsets and policies is not just possible. You are going to prove it works.

Your Journey

Malaysia, JomPACT! works in three stages, each one building your power to create change. Whether you complete the Masterclass or go all the way to leading a funded project, you're part of the movement.

01

PACT Masterclass (Learn & Upskill)

Free and open to all youth in Malaysia - a learning pathway with seven self-paced online courses that arms you with everything you need: the science behind plastic pollution, behaviour-centred design skills, project management, and how to fundraise and advocate like a pro. By the end, you will have the confidence and toolkit to lead real change - plus a certificate of completion from WWF-Malaysia.

⏱️ Founding cohort: Complete the course by 31 January 2026
and
 unlock co-design opportunities

02

Co-Design with Key Stakeholders (Engage & Create)

This is where it gets real. You will join site visits to plastic leakage hotspots, dialogues, and design workshops with local councils, businesses, and community groups, and co-create solutions that actually work. Your insights will feed into a Youth Recommendation Paper that brings your voice to policymakers.

⏱️ February - March 2026 | 2-day intensive workshop in Klang Valley
Limited to 100 youth who complete the 7 PACT Masterclass | Application required

03

Eco Champion Awards (Lead & Make Impact)

Ready to lead? This is your chance to turn ideas into action. Pitch your project to eliminate problematic and unnecessary single-use plastics in a competitive selection process, and if you are one of the 25 teams selected, you will receive mentoring, technical support, and a seed grant of RM3,000 to bring it to life over six months.

Your project will create measurable community impact, and your learnings will directly inform national policy recommendations.

⏱️
April - May 2026: Pitch your project for selection
June - November 2026: Implement your project with expert mentorship and support (24 weeks)
December 2026: Present your impact and insights at the Plastic Law Lab Roundtable to shape future policy

🔓 Open to all youth who complete the PACT Masterclasses
⭐ Co-Design participants will have an added advantage during selection

Advocacy Meets Youth Action:
Plastic Policy Law Lab

As you progress through Malaysia, JomPACT! Masterclasses, WWF-Malaysia's Plastic Policy Law Lab runs in parallel - conducting a readiness and needs assessment to understand Malaysia's capacity to address single-use plastics. By the time you reach Co-Design in February - March 2026, this research will inform your work with key stakeholders. And by the time you complete your Eco Champion Awards projects, your on-the-ground insights will feed into national policy recommendations.
